Congratulations Stephen Barbas
This week I was provided with a clipping regarding Stephen Barbas. It is just the sort of thing that I look for when I print those requests in our periodic email blasts, "let me know if you have received an award." Mr. Barbas did not send me the clipping, but his professional associates were proud of him and contacted me.
Stephen Barbas is a member of the Board of Directors of the Tampa Hispanic Bar Association. According to their website, “The Tampa Hispanic Bar Association (“THBA”) was formed to bring together by association, communication and organization, lawyers, judges, and other members of the Tampa Bay legal community of Hispanic origin or descent and all others who support the mission of the THBA.”
The Association celebrated its seventh annual gala in November. Mr. Barbas was honored for his participation in the community. They awarded him the E.J. Salcines Spirit of Tampa Award.
Judge Emiliano Jose Salcines served as a prosecutor and in private practice before he was appointed to the Second District Court of Appeal in 1998. He has been an active participant in the Tampa legal community and more. The THBA recognized him for his years of service, and established the Salcines Spirit of Tampa Award as a tribute to his involvement in Tampa over the last forty years.
The E.J. Salcines Spirit of Tampa Award honors Judge Salcines and at the same time celebrates those members of the community who mentor, guide and pave the way for young Hispanics in the Tampa Bay area. The award will be presented annually by the THBA.
Stephen Barbas was selected as the first recipient of this award because he has been instrumental in providing the guidance and leadership that has allowed the THBA to flourish and grow. This is recognition of his leadership of THBA, his professional practice in the Tampa area, his dedication to his alma mater, Loyola, and a host of community organizations including performing arts, education, and more.
Mr. Barbas is a long-time workers' compensation practitioner, and has been Board Certified for more than twenty years.
Congratulations Mr. Barbas on your role in the THBA, and upon their recognition of your contribution to your community and profession.
